What are eco-friendly dog toys made of?

Simply put, eco-friendly dog toys are made from a variety of materials that are environmentally or sustainable. This means that the toys are produced in a way that has minimal, reduced, or no harm to the environment or the world’s ecosystems.

Some materials you might have heard of, some you might not have. Some of the popular materials used for eco-friendly dog toys are regenerated cotton, organic cotton and polyfill. But there are more uncommon materials such as Hemp rope and Beech wood that provide some fantastic benefits!

Let’s take a closer look at each of these materials.

Organic cotton

Organic cotton is made from non-genetically modified plants. It doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers. It is also kept out of the way of the surrounding environment, which is excellent news for our other wildlife.

Recycled poly fill

Recycled poly fill is usually made from plastic bottles, meaning those bottles won’t end up in landfills. Recycled poly fill is also hypoallergenic, meaning it’s a popular choice for winder eco-friendly pet products such as dog beds and plush toys.

Hemp rope

Hemp ropes are made from all-natural Hemp, which means they have not been treated, sprayed, or grown with any toxic chemicals, additives, or pesticides. Another advantage is that Hemp is digestible for dogs, unlike many popular rope chews on the market. They’re also great for cleaning your pup’s teeth and massaging their gums, which aids their overall dental health.

One of the most common questions we get asked about hemp ropes is, “will it make my dog high?”

The answer is “No”, definitely not! Hemp is not like its cousin plant and will not give your dog a high.

One of our favourite Hemp rope products is the Hemp rope ring by Beco. You can pick this up on our website, priced at £8.99. And a bonus is that 5% from the sale of this product goes to Ocean Generation charity via Work For Good.

What do the dogs think of this toy? Well, we have a delighted customer in one of our recent product reviews, “Domino really likes this toy! She chewed quite vigorously but had only managed to get through a couple of strands. So it’s quite tough.”

Beech wood

Beech wood makes an ideal natural chew for your dog. Again, this product is free from chemicals, additives, and colourings made from natural Beech trees. The Beech wood has been dried naturally to preserve its nutrients, which are released once your dog chews them. Beechwood is a splinterless hardwood and a fantastic eco-friendly alternative to plastic.

You can find a selection of Smug Mutts Beech wood toys over on our site, prices ranging from £11.99 – £14.99!

Again, 5% from the sale of this product goes to Ocean Generation charity via Work For Good.

These make the perfect tug-of-war toy for your companion.

This is a great guide as Bobby loves his eco friendly toys but good to know why they are good for the environment and what to look out for. Bobby is a big fan of smug mutts toys – they have been a big hit! He seems to enjoy playing with the ball and gnawing on the rope! If he’s in a more cuddly mood, he likes his dolphin made from recycled materials!
